Toyota Racing converted a late strategic opportunity into victory at Fuji Speedway as the #8 TR010 Hybrid of Sébastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley and Ryō Hirakawa won the 6 Hours of Fuji.
The decisive call came at what became the final pit stop under Virtual Safety Car. Toyota elected not to change tyres, shortening the stop and putting the #8 into the track position it needed. When racing resumed with 21 minutes remaining, the crew held on to take Toyota's 10th FIA World Endurance Championship home victory at Fuji.
It was not a straightforward route to the front. Toyota reported that both cars had been outside the podium positions with around an hour to go after different setbacks in a race shaped by changing conditions, repeated neutralisations and a tightly compressed Hypercar field. The late strategy reset that picture.
The result also made Buemi, Hartley and Hirakawa the first crew to win two FIA WEC races in 2026, according to the championship. Toyota said 72,326 spectators attended across the Fuji weekend.
Executive Vice President Hiroki Nakajima thanked the home support after the race and framed the result as a collective recovery by the drivers and team. The separate post-race message adds context to a result that was ultimately decided less by outright pace than by execution at the final neutralisation.
For Toyota, the significance is larger than a home trophy. Fuji had been a key pressure point in the title fight, and the #8 crew turned a race that looked to be slipping away into maximum momentum heading into the final phase of the season.
