Proton Competition's first visit to Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya ended with two Ford Mustang LMGT3s and nothing to show for either. The #88 crossed the line eighth in class after a recovery from the back of the field and was then disqualified. The #77, which had run as high as second, ran out of fuel on the final lap and was not classified.
From a first-corner spin to eighth
Both Mustangs had made it into Hyperpole, and the #88 of Stefano Gattuso, Giammarco Levorato and Logan Sargeant started ninth in LMGT3 on the official grid. That position lasted one corner: contact at turn one spun Gattuso and dropped the car to the back.
What followed was a long climb. The team describes fast, consistent stints from all three drivers, and by the flag the #88 was eighth in class. "The contact at the start was unlucky and put us right to the back of the pack," Gattuso said. "To recover from that setback was a great feeling."
Excluded after the flag
The result did not stand. According to the team, the #88 was excluded after coming to a standstill on the cooldown lap. The FIA WEC final classification lists the car as disqualified, after 182 laps. FIA WEC stewards Decision No. 64 (Document 103), issued on 18 October at 19:30, confirms that the car did not reach parc fermé under its own power. It stopped on track at Turn 11 after the chequered flag and had to be recovered by marshals. The stewards ruled this a breach of Article 15.1.1 of the WEC Sporting Regulations and disqualified the #88.
The #77's last lap
The sister car had the opposite race. Eric Powell started eighth in class and, in what the team calls his customary strong opening stint, climbed as high as second at times. Ben Tuck and Sebastian Priaulx kept it in contention, but the #77 ran out of fuel on the final lap and is listed as not classified after 181 laps.
Monza, 6 to 8 November, is the last chance for points in 2026.
