Genesis Magma Racing left Fuji without points despite showing some of its strongest race pace of the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship season.
With qualifying cancelled because of the weather, the starting grid was set by practice times. Dani Juncadella started the #19 GMR-001 Hypercar from third, while André Lotterer lined up fifth in the #17, giving Genesis its best starting positions of the campaign.
The #19 stayed in the leading group for much of the race. Juncadella held third during the opening hour before Paul-Loup Chatin and Mathieu Jaminet kept the car inside the top five as conditions changed. A slow stop during the final Safety Car period cost positions, but the car remained in the points fight.
That chance disappeared late on. Jaminet was given a drive-through penalty for an earlier infringement, leaving too little time to recover. The #19 crossed the line 11th.
The #17 took a different route through the race. Lotterer struggled early after starting on four medium tyres while much of the field used softer compounds, but Mathys Jaubert and Pipo Derani brought the car back towards the top ten. As temperatures dropped and light rain arrived, the car fell outside the prescribed tyre-pressure range. A subsequent drive-through penalty dropped the crew to 15th.
The result was disappointing, but the weekend also underlined the progress of the new programme. Both GMR-001s started inside the top five, the #19 spent long periods racing with established Hypercar contenders, and the team reported no reliability issue during the six-hour race.
For Genesis, Fuji therefore became another lesson in execution. The pace was visible, but in a tightly compressed WEC field, small operational mistakes again carried a heavy cost.
